Official secret?

The UPA Government, paranoid about giving the NDA regime credit for anything, had made it clear that there would be no special celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of Pokharan II. But it couldn8217;t have stopped the annual Technology Day functions from going ahead. So there was no direct mention of the May 1998 Pokharan tests at these functions despite the fact that Technology Day is observed to honour that very momentous event. Speaker after speaker either completely skirted the event or referred to the N-tests in as vague a term as possible. Even former President A P J Abdul Kalam, one of the key players in those tests, was on his toes. He said this was a day when India had become self-reliant in 8220;certain important and critical8221; technologies.
