The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), under its Multilateral Economic Relations (MER) division, has issued an advertisement for the engagement of several contractual positions to support India’s forthcoming BRICS Chairship. The ministry is seeking applications for two roles: policy specialists and consultants. The tenure for the positions is one year, which can be further extended depending on the assessment, mutual willingness and requirement.
The deadline for receiving all applications is January 16, at 5:30 pm. Shortlisted candidates will be informed of the interview or written test via email.
According to the MEA notifications released by the administration division, the ministry is looking to fill two positions for policy specialists and 10 positions for consultants. Both roles are based in New Delhi at various MEA locations, including South Block and Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan.
Selected candidates for both positions will be attached to dedicated BRICS Working Groups covering sectors such as trade, finance, energy, agriculture, and health.
Policy Specialists will be responsible for developing concept notes, analytical documents, and background papers. They will also assist in the negotiation process, draft outcome documents, and coordinate with BRICS member countries and international organisations.
On the other hand, consultants will support the division by assisting in the preparation of presentations, position papers, and media content. Their duties include keeping track of country positions on relevant subjects and performing liaison duties with various line ministries and think tanks.
The ministry has set specific criteria for interested Indian nationals:
Policy Specialists
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or higher in fields such as Economics, International Relations, or International Law. A minimum of three years of experience in handling multilateral work with UN agencies, international organisations, or the Government of India is required. The age limit is 40 years as of the application deadline.
Consultants
Candidates should possess a Master’s degree in a related subject and have at least one year of experience as a consultant in a relevant field. The age limit for this position is 35 years.
Policy Specialists are eligible for a maximum remuneration of Rs 2.25 lakh per month. Consultants will receive a package of up to Rs 10 lakh per annum.
