It8217;s now the turn of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to begin using the doublespeak they accuse BJP politicians of. Seshadri Chari, editor of the RSS mouthpiece Organiser on Friday expressed his support for labour reforms in the country, but then added that this was his personal view8212;the RSS, he said, continues to be opposed to such reforms.

Chari was speaking at a seminar on the 8216;Politics and Economics of Liberalisation in India8217;, organised by The Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies.

Addressing other key issues in the ongoing reforms process, Chari said that reforms should be divested from its sole objective of attracting foreign investors.

Chari also criticised multilateral agencies like the World Bank and the IMF for not making much effort to educate the masses of the developing countries on economic reforms. 8216;How much has IMF and World Bank spent on this8217;, Chari asked.

Pointing out the wide diversity on the economic front, Chari said that 8220;we are faced with a situation in which there are surplus foodgrains, yet 30 per cent of the people are below poverty line, external debt has fallen to 20 per cent of GDP, while internal debt is as high as 85 per cent of GDP, inflation is low yet the rupee continues to slide against the dollar.8221;

Speaking at the seminar, Atul Anjaan, Secretary of the Communist Party of India CPI said that the main problem in the process of liberalisation is that it is dominated by corporate houses. Chambers like CII, Ficci and Assocham have become more of political parties, Anjaan said, adding that 8216;these chambers have a note on each and everything8217;.
