
Popular Bollywood star Govinda will contest on a Congress ticket from Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency against Union Minister Ram Naik of BJP, party spokesman Kapil Sibal said today.
In Mumbai, the actor received the news of his nomination from Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said he would travel in local trains and buses as part of his election campaign. He said it would be his humble attempt to meet the 8216;8216;lowest of the low8217;8217; in his constituency and try to understand their problems.
8216;8216;I have undergone trouble and struggled in my early days and would attempt to find out if things have improved or have remained the same,8217;8217; Govinda told mediapersons at his residence.
Replying to a question, he said he has no intention to be 8216;8216;Neta Number 18217;8217; as he treats politics as service to the people. The actor said he will observe the conditions in his constituency, listen to people and then decide how to act on it and comment on it. Govinda told mediapersons his priority would be to visit the Jivadani temple in Virar and also meet the people who supported him in his early struggling days.
Earlier, Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters that he met Govinda to congratulate him on his nomination after he was informed of this development.
