CHANDIGARH, Aug 27: Out of the 11 professors appointed to the Government Medical College, Sector 32 here, nine joined today. The appointments were made after the Union Public Service Commission declared the interview results following Supreme Court directions.

The nine doctors who joined today were on deputation to the Medical College. Two professors, one from Delhi, the other from Rohtak, are yet to join.

GMC Director-Principal Dr V.K. Kak said: quot;With the fresh appointments, the number of professors has risen to 18.quot; Dr Kak could not say whether that number sufficed to qualify the GMC for recognition from the Medical Council of India. He, however, said that despite the court directions to the Medical Council of India not to make the deputation of professors an issue, permanent recognition had not been granted to the Medical College so far.
