VADODARA, July 28: From August 15, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation will share the expenses of cleaning nearly 1,800 housing societies in the city.

An official spokesman said on Tuesday that the move was aimed at bringing under sanitation uncovered areas of the city. While the VMC covered only few societies, a majority of the societies8217; residents shared the expenses for cleaning.

As per a resolution adopted by the General Board on June 30, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation will give Rs 300 every month to the society or Rs 6 per house of the society towards sweeping the area. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation is in the process of recruiting more sweepers to cover societies and other uncovered areas, particularly the peripheries.

Only those societies whose houses have been assessed will get the benefit of the scheme. Before getting the amount they will have to submit a certificate from the sanitary inspector to the effect that the area has been swept. The assistance will be given together every six months.

Societies availing of the benefit should also be registered with the Corporation. The assistant municipal commissioner zones and the solid waste manager will review the programmes from time to time.

VMC demolishes illegal structures: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation on Tuesday demolished 1,700 square feet unauthorised compound wall on the Atladra Road, while ward offices levied Rs 8,600 from persons littering the streets.

An official spokesman said the squad also razed 120 feet-long wired fencing, thus removing blockage from the 750 metre road. Some 50-odd shopkeepers in Gorwa area are also reported to have voluntarily demolished constructions falling in the margin area.

He added that people from whom fines were recovered included nine hotel and restaurant owners, who were earlier served notices for littering the streets.The spokesman informed that 92 cattle were also caught and taken to cattle pounds.

Meanwhile, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation has also issued warning to cattle owners to keep the cattle in their sheds or face judicial action under sections 87 to 92 of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation BPMC Act if they were let loose.

The Corporation has also said that action could be initiated under the Damage to Public Property Act against persons who damage the treegaurds and the plants in it.
