CHENNAI, JUNE 7: India8217;s Narain Karthikeyan survived a close call when the head restraint of his car ripped off at high speed, to finish a creditable third in the seventh round of the Autosport British Formula three championship race at Croft Circuit on Sunday.
Narain, supported by Kingfisher, Mobil-1, TATA and JK Tyre, struggled to keep the car on the track after nearly catching up with the front-runners, and eventually brought home his Dallara F399 Mugen-Honda machine safely over the finish line, according to information reaching here on Monday.
Ahead of Narain team Carlin Motorsport, were Englishman Marc Hynes Manor Motorsport and Brazilian Luciano Burti Stewart Racing, both of whom had the Indian in their mirrors for much of the race.
Hynes clocked 33 minutes, 52.909 seconds, as against Burti8217;s 33:53.982 and Narain8217;s 34:10.663, over 25 laps on this 2.127 mile circuit.
The race had an incident-filled start when Irishman Warren Carway rolled in the first lap and two other cars collided on the same lap which forced the safety car on to the track.
