MUMBAI, May 31: At least 100 volunteers of Mumbai Youth Association MYA today burnt an effigy of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to condemn the nuclear tests conducted by the neighbouring country.

Addressing a gathering in Mulund, president of MYA, Pradeep Bhavnani, said the second nuclear test conducted by Pakistan on Saturday was uncalled for and deserved to be condemned outright.

Meanwhile, various organisations in the city have protested the stance taken by US, China and Pakistan in regard to nuclear tests.

Mahim Vikas Mandal, Konkan Vikas Aghadi and Dadar Vegetable and Flower Merchant Association yesterday burnt effigies of snakes and dragons at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai to condemn China and Pakistan.

Grahak Panchayat president Bindu Madhav Joshi urged the citizens to boycott American goods to protest US sanctions against India for conducting nuclear tests on May 11 and May 13 at Pokhran in Rajasthan.

Protestors alleged that Pakistan hoodwinked the world in getting nuclearcapability clandestinely in connivance with US and China.

Besides, Bharatiya Janata Party activists directed their ire against USA by pouring Pepsi into gutters.

Dombivali-based social organisation Azadi Bachcao Andolan has also given a call to ban US goods. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Minorities Front MMF has condemned nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan and urged the Indian government to maintain good relations with the neighbouring country.

In a statement here, the MMF also appealed to all the countries in the world not to conduct any nuclear tests.

MMF also organised a public meeting at Matan Talao in central Mumbai to demand immediate publication of Srikrishna Commission report pertaining to city riots of 1992-93 and subsequent serial blasts. It also demanded release of TADA detenus from prisons immediately.Among those who addressed the meeting were Ram Manohar Tripathi, former minister and G R Khairnar, former deputy municipal commissioner of BMC.
