SURAT, June 4: In yet another case of rising numbers of serious crimes in the city, a dead body, suspected to be that of a murdered taxi-driver of the city was recovered by the city police, even as a case of murder was filed on Wednesday evening in the Mahidharpura police station by the brother of the deceased.
The body was recovered from a deserted stretch of land on the outskirts of Miyagam-Karjan in Bharuch district.
According to the complainant Mohammed Firoz, two persons approached his brother Mohameed Riaz, a taxi-driver based at the Surat railway station and asked him to take them to Vadodara. But after leaving for Vadodara on June 1 his brother never returned, the complainant added.
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh police has arrested two persons, who have reportedly confessed to kidnapping and then murdering the driver on the national highway, 22 kms from Bharuch before heading for MP.The two have been identified as Raju Babulal Yadav and Atul Vikaschandra Bajpai, both residents of Kanpur in UP.
According to official sources, both Yadav and Bajpai were arrested in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh after city police contacted the MP police and informed them that the accused may have murdered the driver and escaped with the vehicle.
City police sources said on Thursday that both Bajpai and Yadav will be brought to the city early on Friday and their interrogation is likely to solve the case.
Meanwhile, the police have asked the deceased’s family to identify the dead body, although the body is decomposed beyond recognition.
While the Mahidharpura police had earlier registered a case of kidnapping with the intention to murder under sections 364 and 394 of the IPC, they will lodge a case of murder under section 302 of the IPC if the body is identified tomorrow.
