Mumbai swimmers continue making waves

Parikshit set records in two varied events 8212; two NMR8217;s 8212; the first in the 100m freestyle and then the 100m backstroke to erase Avinash Kriplani8217;s name from the books.

In the two-lap freestyle the record-margin remained 0.09s, while going backwards his effort was 0.29s better than the marks set in 1998.

Among the other NMR8217;s, 15-year-old Tejaswi Shetty, of CES Barfiwalla H.S Andheri lowered Sindoor Thakkar8217;s 1998 mark in the girls under-15 100m freestyle. Touching in at 1:04.34s, Tejaswi remained .33s better than Sindoor.

In the boys under-18 section, Sandeep Verma brought off the best effort today knocking 31s off Aditya Shroff8217;s 400m IM mark set in 1994.

Later, Bhavna Sharma of Swami Vivekananda H.C., Chembur erased the 200m backstroke record in the under-15 event. At 2:45.72s she put aside Nanita Khurana8217;s 8217;96 mark of 2:47.83s by two seconds.

After two days Greater Mumbai have bagged 24 off 44 events held, while the host8217;s have just managed four.
