Varsity teachers’ strike
MUMBAI: College and university teachers all over the country affiliated to the All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Association will strike work indefinitely from August 11. Colleges in Mumbai are likely to be affected by the strike called by the unions to protest the alleged refusal of the Union Government to implement the package of revised pay scales and allied conditions formulated by the University Grants Commission.
The Bombay University and College will lead the agitation in the city. Teachers in the University of Mumbai area will meet on August 10 at Podar College to discuss various strategies to be adopted during the agitation.
Free eye camp at Tilak Nagar
Lions Club of Chembur is conducting a free eye check-up camp at the Maharashtra Aikyavardhak Mandal Vidya Mandir, Tilak Nagar between 9 am and 1.30 pm. Glasses will be supplied at Rs 10 for children and Rs 25 for adults. Cataract, IOL operations will also be done.
Culture festfor school children
The Virar Municipal Council has planned several cultural programmes for school children from August 9 to 15 to celebrate the independence day on August 15. The programmes include essay, fancy dress, singing, dancing, drama, and elocution competitions. The programme will be inaugurated by Hitendra Thakur on August 9 at the Sanskrutik Bhavan. A workshop on entrepreneurship for the youth will also be organised as part of the celebrations.
Ashok Mehta wins Lions medal
Lion Ashok Mehta was awarded Presidential Medal for the 19th time at the recently concluded international convention of Lions International in the United Kingdom. He has also been authorised to look after Sight Care Activity in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
