UMC panel passes octroi proposal

The UMC8217;s standing committee has unanimously approved the privatisation of octroi collection. The scheme will come into effect from September 16.The calling of tenders for this scheme had led to a tender of Rs 17.19 crore from Konark Infrastructure Private Limited. Commented panel member Lala Punjabi, 8220;We could pass the proposal unanimously because the move is in the UMC8217;s long-term interest, and no party would like to be seen as creating obstacles.8221;

Exhibition by Keller institute

The Helen Keller Institute for the Deaf and Blind will hold a three-day exhibition-cum-sale at Cymroza Art Gallery from September 17. The event will showcase semi-precious jewellery and decorative candles made by deaf and blind children.

Math president elected

Swami Ranganathanandaji Maharaj was unanimously elected president of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math and that of the governingbody of the Ramakrishna Mission held recently. He is the 13th president of the order.
Swami Ranganathanandaji succeeds Swami Bhuteshanandaji Maharaj who attained Mahasamadhi on August 10, 1998. Since then, according to the Rules of the Order, Swami Rananganathanandaji being the oldest in age among the trustees, was officiating as president.

Ozone layer preservation day

The Environment Department of the state government and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board will observe International Day for Preservation of Ozone layer8217; on September 16. A talk on the subject will also be held at 3.00 pm at Prabhudesai Hall, Bombay Cricket Association, Polly Umrigar Gate, Churchgate D Road.

Sydenham College book fair

The Sydenham Book Circle will be holding the Sydenham Book Fair between September 10 and 21 at the Sydenham College Room between 10 am and 6 pm. Books on management, cookery, fiction, classics and computers will be available at the fair.

YWCA8217;s new project

The YoungWomen8217;s Christain Association will inaugurate a new housing project Asha Kiran in Andheri on September 12 at 4.00 pm. This project is for for women of different age groups.
