Youth killed at Khetwadi

  • An employee of a travel agency was found murdered in his office in Khetwadi on Thursday night. According to police sources, two employees of the agency, Bandan Thakur Yadav and Manoj Suchak were in the office last night. Manoj had been out of the office for some work and when he returned, he found Yadav lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit and several stab wounds. The money drawer of the agency was broken open. Yadav was immediately shifted to J J hospital and was declared dead on admission. The travel agency owner Mahesh Upadhyay lodged a complaint of murder. No arrest has been made so far, the V P Road police said.
  • Undertrial attempts suicide

  • A twenty-six-year-old undertrial, who was accused of killing his wife by strangulating her because she refused to stitch his underwear, tried to commit suicide by jumping from the second floor of the Thane district sessions court on Thursday.
  • The police said undertrial Raju Mahipat Sakle, who wasarrested on May 15, 1998, was produced before a judge in the Thane sessions court on Thursday. After the hearing, at around 4 pm, Raju escaped from the guards and jumped from the second floor of the court premises.

    He sustained multiple fractures and had been admitted to the Thane civil hospital, the police said.

    Non-stop science experiments

  • As part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the R D National College, the physics department in collaboration with the electronics and computer department will perform 320 experiments non-stop over 24 hours into four sections: optics, electronics, electricity , magnetism and mechanics, heat and sound. This event will kick off at 8.30 am on August 21 up to 8.30 am on August 22.
  • WIT courses for women

  • The Women8217;s India Trust has announced the following courses at the Kamila Tyabji WIT Centre, Bunder Road, Panvel: block printing six months, screen printing on paper six months, Balwadi teachers8217; training 1 year and soft toy making 6months. The courses are conducted either free or at a nominal rate. Except for the Balwadi course, which requires an SSC degree, the rest of the courses require no formal educational qualifications.   • Rotaract clubs8217; integration walk

  • To promote national integration, the Rotaract clubs of Churchgate, Bombay Hills South and Bombay and Rotaract District 3140 are organising an integration walk on August 15. The walk will be flagged off from Nariman Point and will end at Colaba Woods. Registration time is 7 am. There will also be a flag hoisting ceremony at 8.30 am.

  • Concerned Christians have given a call to observe August 15 as the National Day for Prayer. All over the country, Christians will gather to pray for Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and those in authority to ensure that peace and liberty will be observed, said a release by the Indian Christian Voice.
