Virgin Mary8217;s statue at Vasai

The statue of pilgrim Virgin Mary of Nazareth, presently on a world tour, will arrive at Vasai on October 22 via Bhiwandi from Pune. Various religious ceremonies have been organised at Vasai from October 22 to October 24. The statue will then be taken to Mumbai for its departure from India.

The statue is being taken all over the world as a preparation for the Year of Christ 2000 and beginning of a new millennium. Pune, Kolhapur, Sawantwadi and Mumbai including Vasai are the only areas which have been included in the statue8217;s itinerary in the country. The statue8217;s pilgrimage had began from Nazareth in Israel on March 8, last year. Pope John Paul II had received the statue in the Vatican city in April, last year.

Teachers to hold dharna

Degree and university college teachers will stage a morcha and dharna all over the state on Wednesday. President of the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation MFUCTO C R Sadashivan said theone-day agitation is to protest against the actions of the previous government, which had neglected implementation of the revised payscales of the teachers. Morchas will be held before the office of the collectorate and universities in other parts of the state, while in Mumbai, the demonstration will be held at Azad Maidan. The teachers will demand for an immediate GR announcing new payscales and negotiations with the new government on other issues. MFUCTO has already written to the new government to this effect.

Free eye camp at Kurla

The Shri Kalpeshwar Mahadev Mandal and Shri Kutchi Visa Oswal Jain Sewa Samaj at Kurla have organised a free eye operation camp at Shri Kutchi Visa Oswal Jain Seva Samaj Hall, opposite Kurla Court, LBS Marg, Kurla W from November 14 to 17. Operations will be conducted at Ram Agrawal Eye Hospital, and Guru Darshan Hospital. Contact Subhash Nagar, New Mill Rd, Kurla on Sundays between 10 am and 11 am.

Auditors8217; panel for banks

The Institute of CharteredAccountants of India is preparing a panel of auditors for audit of branches of public sector banks and statutory central and branch audit of regional rural banks. The last date for submitting applications has been extended to October 25.
