
Builders told to refund Rs 4.5 lakh
The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission recently passed strictures against builders Mazda Properties Ltd, ordering it to refund Rs 4.5 lakh for failing to construct a bungalow even after 10 years of receiving full payment.
The complainant, Capt Lavji Mistry, had booked a bungalow as part of the builders8217; Ahura Ashish Project at Bordi near Dahanu. Mistry paid Rs 4.5 lakh on various dates and the last sum of Rs 1 lakh was paid on June 5, 8217;89. The builders had taken money from other parties too even before purchasing land meant for construction. Eventually, they bought a piece of agricultural land in a benami transaction in the name of one Behram Irani.
AIR announcer commits suicide
An All India Radio AIR announcer committed suicide by consuming insecticide at her home at D N Nagar, Andheri, this afternoon. D N Nagar police said Asha Sahani, an announcer with the Vividh Bharati band on AIR, consumed insecticide at her home. Police said thereason for the suicide is not yet known. Her husband Brajbhushan is also an announcer with AIR. She was declared dead before admission to Nanavati Hospital.
