Kadam8217;s deposition put off
The cross examination of suspended SRPF Sub Inspector M Y Kadam before the Justice S D Gundewar commission has been adjourned to March 9, 1998 as Mumbai police are unable to provide adequate bandobast due to the coming Lok Sabha polls. Mumbai Police counsel Balkrishna Joshi submitted before the commission that all police officers and staff are required to be available for election duty from February 26 onward and it will be impossible for police personnel to remain present during Kadam8217;s cross examination.
Earlier, the judge had requested Mumbai police to make arrangements on February 26 for two hours since only P M Hegde remains to be cross examined.
KEM nurses stage morcha
About 50 nurses of King Edward VII Memorial KEM hospital today staged a demonstration in front of the Dean8217;s office following the death of one of their colleagues. Nurse Association secretary Trishila Kamble said deceased Mamta Alva was admitted to hospital on Mondaynight. When she went home after finishing her duty at 2 pm, she complained of uneasiness to her mother. Later, her mother took her to hospital. Kamble informed she Mamta was put in the general ward instead of ICCU and as a result when Mamta8217;s condition turned serious, there was no senior doctor to examine her. Her mother alleged Mamta died this morning due to negligence of the doctors.
But Dean of KEM Dr Pragna M Pai ruled out any negligence on the part of the doctors because senior doctors had attended on her and despite all their efforts she died following a brain haemorrhage.
