More denies attempting suicide
Navi Mumbai corporator Meena More, who was set ablaze on Wednesday, today denied she had tried to commit suicide. Talking to Doordarshan from her hospital bed, More said she was an elected representative of the people and had no reason to attempt suicide. She said she had an altercation with some people over where the municipality tap should be installed and when they started using threatening language she just turned her back and walked away. 8220;I suddenly felt something wet fall on my back and turned around but before I could realise what was happening I was set ablaze,8221; she said. Recognising a few of the accused she said among them were Pandey, Tiwari, Bengali and a bearded man called Kasam.
Thackeray issued summons
Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and two others have been issued summons recently by Thane court in a case filed against them by a police inspector. The Thane first class judicial magistrate M M Potdar issued orders for summons to beissued on Sena chief, Sanjay Raut, executive editor of Saamna and Subhash Desai, printer and publisher of the daily, returnable on January 18, 1999. In his complaint the inspector said baseless allegations had been made against himself, former DIG of Thane Ulhas D Joshi and the DSP, Thane, C Prabhakar.
