32 lecturers rapped for `coaching’

  • The state government has so far initiated action against 32 college teachers from the city as part of its drive to curb illegal nexus of professors and coaching classes. Minister of State for Education Anil Deshmukh said of the junior and senior college teachers teaching in private coaching classes, nine have resigned, seven have accepted voluntary retirement and salaries of 16 have been stopped.
  • Action sought on Srikrishna report

  • The Citizens’ Committee for Action on the Srikrishna Commission Report, comprising prominent writers, intellectuals, artists, film and theatre personalities, has handed over a memorandum to the President of India urging him to intervene under Article 355 of the Constitution to restore the rule of law, and in particular direct Maharastra government to take action against the persons indicted in the report.
