Jail official, 11 others bookedThe Deputy Superintendent of the central prison, along with two constables and nine others, has been booked by police for allegedly torturing an undertrial to death. Police sources said the action followed a preliminary medical report attributing the death of undertrial Anil Lakshman Kosare in jail three days ago. Deputy Jail Superintendent, Rajendra Dhamne, jail guards Revnath Durke and Purushottam Moon, jail constable Gopal Singh Thakur and Ganesh Bhonde, six wardens and a sweeper have been booked. The accused are facing charges of brutally beating up the 30-year-old undertrial following an altercation between him and a jail staffer. Kosare was rushed to the government medical college where he succumbed to the injuries.3 injured in wall collapse Three persons were injured when the rear portion of a three-storeyed building collapsed in Null Bazar at Grant Road at 5.20 pm on Tuesday. Fire brigade sources said four fire engines and an ambulance wererushed to the spot and work of clearing the debris was completed late night. Witnesses revealed parts of two storeys came crashing down within seconds. The building was under repairs. The injured include the building owner Arif Sheikh and two workmen, who were rushed to J J hospital. Doctors at the hospital said all three were in a stable condition. BMC had recommended demolition of the building a year ago, but businessmen continued to use the ground floor and some upper floors.
