Two boys drown in Thane lake
MUMBAI, August 13: Two boys, Ajay Belal and Virendra Singh Manohar Rathod, were drowned in Thane’s Ralya Devi lake at around noon today, Thane fire brigade said.

The two, eighth standard students of Baban Seth Padwal Vidyalaya, were playing cricket near the lake with other friends after school. When the plastic ball they were playing with fell into the lake, Belal jumped inside to take it out and was drowned. Seeing his friend disappear, Virendra too jumped in to search for him and got drowned. Firemen, who were informed at around 12.00 noon, rushed to the spot and brought the two bodies out.

No-confidence motion against BMC speaker
The opposition in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will move a no confidence motion against speaker Gajanan Thakare for denying the house permission for a debate on the Shivshahi Puranvasan Prakalp (SSSP) today. Thakare decided to wrap up the business of the house seconds after Jadhav made a statement on the face-offbetween the BJP’s Kirit Somaiya and state housing Minister Suresh Jain on the SSSP, and didn’t give the opposition’s demands a hearing.

The opposition, comprising the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), Janata Dal (JD) and the Republican Party of India (RPI), have drafted a letter and collected the signatures of their corporators.

Driver dies in CNG taxi blast
A taxi fuelled by compressed natural gas (CNG) collided with a truck and burst into flames killing its driver on the Western Express Highway at Malad on Thursday. Police said the incident occurred at around 11 am opposite the BSES premises. The identity of the driver, who was charred beyond recognition, could not be established. He was rushed to Bhabha Hospital where he was declared dead before admission, said the Dindoshi police.

The RJD’s key face and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Tejashwi Yadav, party supremo Lalu Yadav’s son, will again contest from his stronghold Raghopur.
