CR local traffic disrupted

  • The Central Railway suburban rail traffic was disrupted for over two hours due to maintenance work on Sunday afternoon. It was further hit when an overhead wire snapped between Kalwa and Mumbra on the slow corridor at 2 pm. Commuters who had stepped out as as it was a holiday were stranded for over two hours till the power cables were repaired. Four locals were cancelled while some were rescheduled. Sudden showers in the central suburbs caught the stranded commuters unawares. Trains were running nearly an hour behind schedule till late evening.

  • Hawkers in the city have decided to take out a morcha to Raj Bhavan tomorrow to protest the unfair and arbitrary8217; decisions against hawkers by the police and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC. The Bombay Hawkers Unions8217; general secretary Suresh Kapile said the police are creating hurdles by refusing permission to take out the morcha from Azad Maidan. Hawkersare left with no other alternative than to take out several morchas from different parts of the city and its suburbs, instead of a single morcha from Azad Maidan, he added. 8220;We appeal to Chief Minister Manohar Joshi to intervene in the matter without any further delay, before the agitation is called,8221; Kapile said. The arbitrary unilateral decision of the mayor of Mumbai has created unrest among hawkers, he said, adding police and BMC are continuously taking unfair decisions against hawkers.
