Indian Premier League (IPL) match referee Farokh Engineer could be hauled up for conduct unbecoming of his position during the tournament where he has been seen wearing team uniforms and even cheering some sides. When asked whether Engineer could be asked to explain his conduct, IPL commissioner and chairman Lalit Modi said action will be taken if the former wicketkeeper is found to be breaching any rule."If so action will be taken against him," Modi said. Analysing the tournament so far, Modi said slow over-rate during the matches is a cause of concern."Match referees have been asked to ensure that over-rates go as per the stipulated time. From next match there will also be a penalty of USD 500 dollar for every slow over," he said.Off-field controversies have also been giving Modi a headache and the BCCI vice-President said players were not allowed to speak to the media except for official briefings. He, however, maintained that the controversies like the Harbhajan-Sreesanth spat and the recent war of words between Shane Warne and Sourav Ganguly were one-off incidents."I am happy that there is lot of passion. The players get heated up but they have to control themselves. I had talked to both Ganguly and Warne and then we have penalised both," he said.
