PUNE, Aug 6: Prominent Hindu and Muslim citizens yesterday came together to condemn killings in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and took a pledge to visit surrounding villages and community pockets in the city to spread the message of communal peace and harmony.

“Foreign missionaries are spreading communalism in the country and inciting the two communities to create tension. We want to give the message that our communal harmony is not so fragile that it will succumb under such pressure,” said Sanjay Nahar, founder-member of the Vande Mataram Sangathana.

Shia sect leader Maulana Rizvi, journalist Anees Chishti, leader Abdul Sattar, Shiv Sena leader Kaka Vadke and Pune City Congress Committee chief Mohan Joshi attended the meeting.
