MUMBAI, December 23: The Mayor-in-Council MiC today cleared the controversial proposal of a flyover at Khodadad Circle in Dadar. However, the issue of awarding only one contract to each contractor was put on a backburner following demands by BJP members.
The contract for building the Rs 27-crore flyover, to be 865 mtrs long and 17 mtrs wide, has been awarded to Unity Constructions Pvt Ltd. 8220;It will ease the traffic congestion,8221; said Mayor Nandu Satam after the MiC meeting.
Earlier, the Heritage Committee had rejected the design submitted by the Unity. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC had given the construction firm six months to revise the design to conform to the heritage panel8217;s recommendations. BJP members were against the cash-strapped BMC funding the project and suggested that the state government should be roped in for funds. However, Satam today informed that the government was already helping the BMC in constructing 13 bridges across the city. The BMC will only pay Rs 4 crore inthe first year, while the state will fund the initial Rs 21 crore this year. On the concretisation of roads, Satam said the MiC will soon reopen the case.
