LUDHIANA, December 7: To regulate the mushrooming growth of the industry in the unplanned outskirts of Ludhiana, a new mega industrial complex, spread over 2,080 acres of land, is being set up on Kohara-Machhiwara road in the district Notification has already been issued under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act in this regard. This information was given by Charanjit Singh Atwal, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, who represent the area in Vidhan Sabha, while addressing a seminar organised by Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation Ltd at the Focal Point here today.

Atwal said that keeping in view the huge investment involved, estimated to around 860 crore, both for acquisition of land and development of infrastructure, financial institutions and private promoters were being involved to complete the project in time.

Referring to the problems of the seven villages whose land was being acquired, Atwal assured that attractive compensation would be paid to the farmers and he would see to it that self-employment opportunities were provided to the unemployed youth of the affected villagers.

He said that the state government had accorded top priority to providing infrastructure facilities in the state for rapid industrialisation with a view to strengthen the economy and to wean away youth from agriculture to industry. He said that new focal points would be set up along all the general focal points being set up in the rural areas, where unemployed youth would be given plots to set up their industrial ventures under self-employment schemes. Identification of entreprenures had already been made by organising camps in the villages.

Addressing the seminar, Capt Narinder Singh, MD, Punjab State Industrial Export Corporation, informed that the corporation had set up 23 industrial focal points and three growth centres. He further informed that 24 new focal points would be developed and the corporation would pay more attention to solve the problems of industrialists.
