NAGPUR, JULY 7: The Nagpur University Management Council8217;s meeting to discuss and chalk out an action plan on recommendations of the A K De Committee, was adjourned on Tuesday with only two of the Council members managing to air their views during the three-hour session evening.

One of these, Dr Ved Prakash Mishra, was half-way through his speech when the meet was adjourned for reasons which could not be known immediately. The meeting will now be held on July 10 and also on July 11, if necessary.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Dr Bhalchandra Chopne told reporters after the meet that a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigations CBI into the marklists scandal would be demanded in the event of the Management Council favouring such a step.

He pointed out that the De Committee was primarily appointed to find out the administrative lacunae and loopholes and the Terms Of References TOR were decided accordingly. The Management Council was having a critical discussion on the same, he added.

Chopne observedthat the TOR for the Qazi Committee, headed by retired High Court Judge M K Qazi, were not yet decided only to ensure that the same did not overlap with the TOR for the De Committee.

He reiterated that the university had indeed demanded a CID probe into the scandal in its letters to the State Director General of Police on May 11 and June 24 as well. A similar request had also been made to Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, who also holds the Home portfolio.

On the controversy over the presence of academic council member Hemant Thakre on the De panel, Chopne observed that the decision was taken by the Board of Exams.
