
PUNE, June 22: In a momentous decision, the Maharashtra Badminton Association MBA decided to seek affiliation to the newly formed parallel body 8212; the Indian Badminton Confederation IBC, floated by former All-England champion Prakash Padukone recently.
The MBA Executive Council which met under the chairmanship of its senior vice-president Suresh Phalnikar unanimously resolved to disaffiliate itself from the country8217;s apex body 8211; the Badminton Association of India BAI 8212; and will seek affiliation to the newly-formed Indian Badminton Confederation headed by Prakash Padukone.
The MBA honorary secretary SV alias Anna Natu released the resolution passed after three-hour deliberations. The most important point of disaffiliation from the BAI was decided by the Council unanimously after short deliberation Natu added.
Natu however said that the decision will be ratified at the special General Body meeting of the MBA to be summoned shortly.
There was no question of disparity arising after the MBA president Avinash Wardekar who is also BAI vice-president, presently in New York, advocated total support in favour of Padukone, Natu pointed out. A total of 15 Council member attended the meeting held at the Western India Enterprise Complex, here today.
Maharashtra, the most progressive state as far as the game is concerned however fell in line with Goa, Gujarat, Bihar and Karnataka who got themselves disaffiliated from the BAI earlier.
Maharashtra8217;s disaffiliation however will sound the death knell of the BAI as the other units like Air-India, Railways and many other states will follow suit.
