Masseur sentenced

Diwan Ashgar Nabi, the masseur attached to India8217;s Commonwealth Games contingent, was today found guilty of indecently assaulting a teenage girl volunteer in the athletes8217; village in Melbourne.

The Melbourne magistrates8217; court today handed over a suspended one-month prison sentence to the 35-year-old masseur, who had pleaded not guilty, after finding him guilty on two counts of indecent assault. The sentence has been suspended for a year.

The 16-year-old victim told the court that Nabi, married, and father of a young son, kissed and fondled her while she was collecting towels from his room in the Games Village on March 13.

Magistrate Charlie Rozencwaja said while there were inconsistencies in some of the evidence given by witnesses, the victim8217;s evidence about the indecent assault was consistent.
