CHANDIGARH, MARCH 11: It was an evening of pure delight. Salil Vishwa Mohan Bhatt enthralled the gathering at the Pracheen Kala Kendra with his performance on the quot;Mohan Veenaquot;.

Salil is the son and disciple of Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the Grammy award winner maestro of the Indian music world. Salil began with aalap in raag gavati and moved on to play the raag jhinjoti before returning to raag gavati.

He was accompanied by Mahendra Shankar Dangi on tabla. The duo captivated the gathering with a piece from Rajasthani folk music: hichki, which was based on the emotions of two separated lovers. The audience appreciated the performance and a round of applause followed completion of every dhun.

However, Salil 27, who has been practicisng on the instrument for the last 12 years, showed the raw awkwardness of a performer when a wire of the instrument broke. He didn8217;t spare a moment to relate to his audience or establish an eye contact.
