RSS: lifting the ban
8226; I don8217;t see anything wrong in the MP government8217;s decision to let a
government servant attend RSS shakhas IE, September 15. We must keep in mind that two Congress prime ministers invited RSS for Republic Day parades. First, when RSS cadre showed extraordinary patriotism during the 1962 war, Nehru himself, fascinated by the services of the RSS, invited it. Lal Bahadur Shastri repeated this gesture when he saw the selfless service of the RSS during the 8216;65 war. Its service during the 1971 and Kargil wars are well-known. Whenever there has been a natural calamity or disaster 8212; an air crash or big accident 8212; it has come to the fore with its selfless, helping hand. The RSS is one of the most patriotic organisations in the country. We don8217;t find even a single instance of the RSS being involved in any activities that are against the good of the
nation and its ethos.

8226; The lifting of the ban on government employees for attending RSS shakhas by the MP government is a step in the right direction. Tens of thousands of government employees all over the country continue to attend RSS shakhas, ban or no ban, and enrich their lives by yoga and pranayam exercises every morning, besides a small dose of deshbhakti. People attending the shakhas come from highly educated, responsible and respectable families and one wonders why the English media Express included is always trying to cause a scare by projecting anything concerning the RSS as a dangerous move. Had the RSS been all that dangerous, it would not have survived for 80 years and people from the RSS would not have risen to the highest posts in the country.

Ranchi lurch
8226; With Madhu Koda becoming the CM of Jharkhand we have entered deeper into a phase of horse-trading and conspiracy in government formation. The RJD, JMM, and Congress could not reach a consensus on a candidate from one of their parties, hence a provisional consensus on an independent MLA. Such a government sets yet another unhealthy precedent in our multi-party system. Governor Syed Sibtey Razi should have discouraged its formation in the first place.

Another brain drain
8226; I Agree with Arun Shourie 8216;Learning to shield our academic excellence,8217; IE, September 14 when he says that we have been suffering from brain drain, as we are unable to attract foreign students even though students from Indian educational institutions are highly placed in the international job market. We are justified in spending money on students, especially in our engineering colleges or IITs, who study engineering but end up being software professionals. In a recent interview, Mohandas Pai, HR head, Infosys, even pointed out that the manufacturing and other industries are in big trouble since they have not enough good people. I haven8217;t come across many engineers from the IITs who actually contribute in terms of their engineering skills, although I personally know three IITians mechanical and electronics engineers who are marketing financial, pharmaceutical or software products.
