PUNE, Sept 29: Chairman and Managing Director of the Kinetic Group Arun Firodia today appealed to the citizens to come forward and make special efforts to ensure that disabled soldiers who valiantly fought the enemy to protect the nation8217;s borders, do not feel isolated.

Firodia was speaking at the function organised at the Queen Mary8217;s Technical Institute for Disabled Soldiers to mark the launch of a series of specially designed greeting cards and calenders in association with Ecovision, a concern dedicated towards eco-conservation. The Kargil conflict brought together a nation and helped create an awareness about the soldiers who had fought so many wars for the nation, he observed. Firodia felt that every disabled jawan should get an opportunity to lead life with dignity.

To this effect, the Kinetic group recently presented around 50 specially designed Kinetic scooters for the disabled Kargil war heroes. Every employee in the factory worked an extra day for making these scooters, he said, adding, 10 of these were handed over to the Indian Army in New Delhi and the rest were distributed elsewhere.

Firodia, who handed over a scooter for the disabled soldiers of QMTI today, said that these had special features like push-button start, variomatic drive with accelerator control and an additional two-wheelers for stability.

The project with Ecovision involves bringing out exclusively designed greeting cards on recycled handmade paper. Around 16 varieties of cards have been designed for Diwali and New Year which will be available at a price of Rs. 7, Rs. 10 and Rs. 12 respectively.

A part of the proceeds of the cards will go to the QMTI contributing towards the technical training and rehabilitation of the disabled soldiers. Executive Director of QMTI, Col A K Moghe Retd said that they had already received orders for around 3000 cards. Amita Munot of Spectrum handed over a cheque of Rs. 9000 and cash worth Rs. 16,000 for the institute to Lt Gen M S Cheema Retd Director admn of QMTI.
