England and Leeds United striker Alan Smith was arrested on Thursday over an alleged bottle-throwing incident during a League Cup match against Manchester United last month.

Smith was questioned and later released on bail.

A West Yorkshire police spokeswoman said: 8220;A 23-year-old man was arrested by officers8230;in Leeds today and questioned in relation to an alleged incident at the Leeds United versus Manchester United fixture on October 28.

8220;He was questioned and released on police bail to return to a police station at a later date. A file will be sent to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration.8221;

Earlier on Thursday Smith was added to the England squad for Sunday8217;s friendly against Denmark.
