CHANDIGARH, Jan 21: A clerical staff member of the Chandigarh Sports Council (CSC) has been suspended while a manager of the Chandigarh Sports Department has been given a charge sheet, for negligence of duty, by RK Rao, Deputy Commissioner cum-Director Sports, Chandigarh Administration. The Deputy Commissioner is also secretary CSC.

LAL Singh, who was posted at the Lake Club has been suspended on charges of embezzlement of money. However, Gurdeep Singh, manager of the club was given a charge sheet.

According to sources, Lal Singh, failed to deposit the money he collected from members of the Lake Club, which over a period time, amounted to more than Rs one lakh.

Lal Singh, however, was not available for comments neither was Gurdeep Singh.JPS Sidhu, Joint Director, Chandigarh Sports Department, who is also joint secretary CSC said that the investigation is on. “We are investigating the matter, and more people are likely to face charges”.

Lake Club has always been in a thick of controversy. Earlier, Hardev Singh Sandhu, manager Lake Club was suspended. And in the early ’90s, Jagdish Chander Gupta, who is now senior superintendent, was given a charge sheet.

Title for Deepika DEEPIKA, a student of B Com part II was declared the best athlete in the annual sports meet of Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, held today at college premises.

Sonia of BA final, was overall second in the meet.
