K B Sharma refused bail

CHANDIGARH, Oct 14: Superintending engineer K B Sharma8217;s bail plea was rejected by UT District and Sessions Judge B S Bedi in the Engineering Department kickbacks case today.

Sharma had surrendered after being booked by the Vigilance Department under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the FIR registered against former chief engineer K K Jerath.

According to the prosecution, there were certain entries against his name in the diaries recovered from the residences of the alleged middlemen during raids by the income-tax authorities in November last year.

Seeking his release on bail, the counsel said the accused was being implicated. Further, the diaries were inadmissible in evidence in light of the recent SC judgment in the Advani case.
