SINGAPORE, OCT 2: KM Binu and S Geetha helped India open their medal account with two bronzes in men’s 800m and women’s 400m respectively as Chinese domination continued on the second day of the Asian Junior Athletics championships at National Stadium.
Binu and Geetha set their personal bests on the way to bronze medal wins. Two Indian runners also made it to the women’s 200m final. China bagged four of the 12 golds decided and now top the list with seven golds two days into the championship.
In the men’s 800m, the fight was for second place between Binu and Mohammad Al Azemi of Kuwait as the gold winner, Saudi Arabia’s Salah Fadila, was way ahead.
In the women’s 400m, Geetha clocked 55.03 seconds for the third place. She had also competed in the last championships in Bangkok. Gold winner Lin Cui of China clocked 53.51 seconds, almost a second ahead of Uzbek Elena Piskunova who bagged the silver with a 54.43 effort. Another Indian R Sukumari was fifth at 55.91.
