CHANDIGARH, Nov 27: Former MP Om Parkash Jindal, who recently resigned from the ruling Haryana Vikas Party (HVP), today floated a new front, Haryana Sarvjati Morcha (HSM), to free the people of the state from the "clutches of the three Lals – Bansi Lal, Devi Lal and Bhajan Lal". The new front aims to become an alternative to the HVP, Congress and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in the state.

Disclosing this at a joint Press conference here toady, HSM president Jindal and its general secretary Raghu Yadav said that the front was non-political outfit, with Punjab Kesri editor Ashwani Kumar Chopra as its patron and former MP Arvind Sharma as vice-president. However, it would be converted into a political front at an appropriate time to capture power in the state, they added.

The two leaders said that they would welcome members of all social and political organisations barring INLD, HVP, Congress and BJP to join the front. "We are particularly keen on those interested in ousting the three "Lals" – who have ruled the state since its inception 32 years back – from politics in the state," they emphasised.

Lashing out at the three Lals, Jindal, an industrialist-turned-politician, said the decision to float the manch was taken to fight their "casteist" policies. He alleged that the HVP-BJP government had left its predecessors far behind in corruption, nepotism and casteism. The government had failed on all the fronts but the Chief Minister was not bothered about it, he added.

"In fact, when I took up the issue of salinity, water-logging and dewatering of standing flood water in agricultural fields, Bansi Lal got furious and asked me who was running the government," he claimed. The former HVP vice-president said that he decided to part ways with Bansi Lal due to sharp difference over his dictatorial style of functioning.

Jindal denied the charge levelled by the HVP organising secretary Abhay Ram Dahiya, that he turned against the Chief Minister after he was denied nomination for Rajya Sabha, saying that the allegations were being levelled by those leaders who wanted to get close to the Chief Minister, he said. "It seems that many such discredited leaders will improve their position. They should thank me for it," he added.

Jindal, a founder member of HVP, reiterated his charges that Bansi Lal had misapproproated more than Rs 6 crore raised for party funds. He conceded having funded about 45 party candidates in the assembly elections in 1996. "Many of them may be willing to join but I don’t want them," he said.

Yadav said the morcha would hold four rallies in the state in December and January next year to educate people about its agenda and expand its base. It would collectively work for the welfare of the people, create awareness among them about their rights and help them in getting their rights. He said the people of Haryana needed a new polarisation and the morcha had been launched with a view to achieving this objective.
