CHANDIGARH, Sept 11: Following the failure of the UT Vigilance Department to file a reply to the objection petition against the attachment of former chief engineer K.K. Jerath8217;s property by the court, UT Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Jasbir Singh today adjourned the case to September 21.

In the petition filed by former chief engineer K.K. Jerath8217;s son, Kapli Dev Jerath, the counsel had stated that the property could not be disposed as it belonged to a Hindu undivided family. Further, proper procedure for attaching the property had not been adopted by the court, it was added.

The court, while declaring Jerath a proclaimed offender, had directed the attachment of his Sector 15 residence along with two fixed deposit receipts on May 28.

Currently under suspension, Jerath has been evading arrest after being booked by the Vigilance Department under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the prosecution, kickbacks worth lakhs of rupees had been received by Jerath for issuing supply orders during his tenure as the chief engineer. His name was also mentioned in the diaries of the alleged middlemen recovered during the raids by the income tax authorities on their residences in November last year, the prosecution had added.
