After the roll-back mela, it is now a transfer spree in Tamil Nadu. Two weeks after the poll rout, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa today shunted out 24 district collectors and 12 district superintendents of police, changed the State Intelligence chief and posted a new police commissioner for Chennai.

Jayalalithaa, who has not attended office after the AIADMK8217;s defeat in all the 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, last week rolled back all the unpopular measures she had taken in the past three years. And now with her partymen accusing district officials of 8216;8216;non-cooperation8217;8217; during elections, heads have begun to roll. The prime target are district collectors and SPs. All but six districts would have new collectors now.

And of the 24 shunted collectors, 14 officers have been left without a posting. Of course, the faithful have been rewarded. Chennai Collector V. Kannuchamy, who was ordered out of the post by the Election Commission following complaints of irregularities in compiling voters8217; lists, is back in the same seat. She has also overhauled the police set-up in Chennai, appointing state Intelligence chief K. Natarajan as the new city police chief. Three deputy commissioners in Chennai have also been replaced.

However, the key change is the return of senior officer, Venkatakrishnan as Intelligence chief. He was her trusted 8216;8216;information channel8217;8217; till a few months before the elections.
