Jathedar asked to step down

ANANDPUR SAHIB, Dec 20: Shiromani Akali Dal president of the North America unit Narinder Pal Singh Hundal today asked Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh to step down.

Speaking to ENS here this evening, Hundal said he had asked Ranjit Singh to reconsider the controversial hukamnama8217; edict on the langar8217; issue.

He said the recent victory of the moderates in the gurdwara elections abroad was a negative referendum on the controversial edict.

He said that considering the cold weather and changing lifestyle of people abroad, there is a need to give a second thought to the edict.
