
PUNE, Dec 23: There is still no trace of the two women prisoners, both foreign nationals, who made a daring escape from Yerawada Central Jail last Thursday.
Two police teams which was dashed to Mumbai to track the prisoners 8211; Tanja David Zhurechar 22, a Swiss national, and Judith Wangui Kamau 25 of Kenya, returned to the city last evening. The police teams carried out surprise checks at various lodges in areas generally inhabited by foreign nationals.
Zhurechar who incidentally had made a similar escape from Yerawada Central Jail in 1996 was tracked down in Colaba. The teams also carried out checks at Dadar. The police had already alerted the airport authorities after the escape of the two prisoners came to light.
The police are also investigating how the two prisoners managed to procure a small blade to cut the iron grills of the ventilator at barrack number three where they were confined. Sources said the blade may have been procured by them when they were taken to Mumbai for court trials. Both the prisoners had been arrested for trading in narcotics and drugs.
