Jail official8217;s appointment quashed

CHANDIGARH, Dec 4: Quashing the appointment of assistant superintendent at Amritsar Jail Jagdip Singh, a Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana HC today directed the Punjab Subordinate Service Selection Committee to get a case registered against him.

Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice T.H.B. Chalapathi, also directed the recovery of the salary already paid to him. His selection, in sports category, had earlier been challenged by Vijay Kumar Khera of Muktsar district. The petitioner had also prayed for considering his name for the post.

Refuting Jagdip Singh8217;s claim of being a national-level basket ball player, the petitioner had stated that sub-inspector Jagdip Singh, posted with the Punjab Armed Police at Jalandhar, had infact played the nationals.

The counsel for the petitioner had added that Khera had been a state and a national level boxer. He had also been awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, he had further added.
