
CHANDIGARH, Oct 7: As many as 500 students of various schools of the City and adjoining states participated in an on-the-spot inter-school painting and essay writing competition at DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 today. The competition was organised by the Indian Council for Environmental Education, Chandigarh and UT Department of Environment.
Following are the results of the painting competition in order of merit:
Group A: Classes V to VIII- Richa Saini DAV Public School, Mohali, Geetu Beri Govt Model High School, Sector 36 and Amit Bhola Gian Jyoti Public School, Phase II, SAS Nagar.
Group B: Classes IX to X- Amneet Kaur Govt Model High School, Sector 36, Meenu Govt Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 32 and Manish Govt High School, Sector 7.
Meanwhile, Pooja Bansal of C L DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Panchkula has bagged the first prize in the on-the-spot essay writing competition, Rajan Vishal DAV Sr Sec School, Sector 8 C won the second prize and Mukul Mohindra Kundan Vidya Mandir, Ludhiana the third. Satwant Kaur of Govt Model Sr Sec School, Sector 46 D was awarded the consolation prize.
Harish Bisht, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Regional Office who was the chief guest, inaugurated these competitions by drawing a sketch of an elephant. He talked about the importance of wild life and its conservation. He asked the children to work for nature conservation as fast incresing population was adversely affecting the natural resources and hitting the ecological balance.
