MUMBAI, AUGUST 3: Holders India despite a scintillating century by its opener A Rayudu (116) were held to a tie by the West Indies, and thus failed to make it to the semi-finals of the Costcutter Under-15 World Cup on run rate basis, at the Eton College Ground on Wednesday.
According to information received here, West Indies won the toss and put India into bat. India riding on the Rayadu’s century supported by PJ Das (22) and A Ali (28) managed to put up 228 runs before being all out at the end of 49 overs.
The match was then interrupted by rain, thus the Duckworth-Lewis formula was employed wherein the target for the West Indies reduced to 173 runs in 29 overs.
West Indies after the early fall of opener X Marshall, were put on course by R Rampaul and L Simmons, who raised 59 runs for the second wicket. Simmons was then assisted by A Fudadin (23), who was unlucky to be run out. Fudadin’s departure triggered a collapse resulting in the fall of three wickets including that of top-scorer Simmons (58).D Ramdin and T Maraj could not finish off the match and the scores were tied at the end of the alloted overs.
India, who lost to England and then beat Netherlands before the encounter against West Indies, however, now return home having lost their chance of defending the title. The West Indies, who logged equal number of points with India — three — made it to the semi-finals possessing a better run-rate.
