The Election Commission of India (ECI) recently summoned several well-known personalities, including TMC MP and Bengali film star Deepak Adhikari, better known as Dev, and India pacer Mohammad Shami, for a hearing under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal.

Poet Joy Goswami, popular Bengali actor Laboni Sarkar, her husband Kaushik Bandyopadhyay, and actor Anirban Bhattacharya have also been summoned by ECI.

Local Councillor (Ward no. 95) Moushumi Das acknowledged that the MP and three members of his family were summoned for the SIR hearing. However, there is no confirmation of when the actor-turned-MP and his family will turn up for the hearing.

Bhattacharya is yet to react to the development.

However, Sarkar and Bandyopadhyay attended the SIR hearing at Katjunagar Monday.

After coming out of the hearing, Sarkar said, “They made us sign only two papers and compared them with earlier signatures.”

Meanwhile, Shami has reportedly told EC that he will appear for the hearing later as he is currently in Rajkot to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Bengal.

Questioning the rationale of summoning Dev for the SIR hearing, the ruling TMC alleged that the EC did it deliberately to harass the three-time MP.
