8226; Your readers owe you a debt of gratitude for keeping in focus the governor8217;s office. If Soli Sorabjee was, as usual, brilliant 8216;Raj Bhavans in year 20058217;, IE, October 11, Neerja Chowdhury was commonsensical 8216;Importance of exit8217;, IE, Oct 11 and Pratap Bhanu Mehta, scholarly 8216;Governors as lynch-pins8217;, IE, Oct 10. Looking at the way the governors of Goa, Jharkhand and Bihar 8212; all ex-Congressmen 8212; have behaved, it seems we are fast reaching a stage when the interests of the Congress party will displace constitutional norms. Is it to be understood that when a Congressman becomes governor, the people of the state forfeit their right to constitutional governance?

8212; M.K.D. Prasada Rao On e-mail

8226; Soli Sorabjee8217;s comments on Raj Bhavan were frank and factual. The 8216;sagacious counsellor8217; envisioned by our founding fathers has long been replaced by unemployable opportunists, willing to go to any lengths for their own survival. It seems the time has come to do a re-think on governors. Indians now are in a position to decide what is best for them. They should decide to dispense with the office of the state governor.

8212; Kishore Karnad On e-mail

8226; The piece by Soli Sorabjee was thought provoking. But I wonder why he acted politically when deciding on the Vaiko case?

8212; Sivaswamy Trichy

8226; It is indeed frightening to read in the biased and unconstitutional decisions taken by governors in different states in the recent past. Why can8217;t more duediligence go into their appointments? Only non-political persons8212;retired chief justices, high commissioners, ambassadors, scientists, educationists, chief editors who have no political attachment8212;should be considered for the posts of president, vice-president and governor.

Wrong target

8226; Apropos of editorial,8216;Time8217;s up, Governor8217; IE, October 8, I don8217;t agree with you and I am sure the general public is with me on this. It is time up for Manmohan Singh and for the Congress party to kick out their mentor. IE, as practitioners of the journalism of courage, must be straight and honest, call a spade a spade, and have the moral guts to advice the grand old party to come clean for the sake of the party, democracy and the country.

ElBaradei

8226; The IAEA has behaved as a partisan body, allowing itself to be suborned and manipulated on various occasions by the Nuclear Weapon States NWSs, particularly the US. The latest example is the utterly uncalled for and hypocritical resolution by the IAEA governing body against Iran. The IAEA has also been a
lobbying group for promoting the nuclear energy industry. Given the controversial character of this issue, such partisan endorsement was the last thing to be expected from the Nobel Peace Prize Committee.

Good reading

8226; This is in reference to Dilip Cherian8217;s column 8216;Tycoon Tattle8217; IE, October 10. I have been following this column for some time now and one thing that pleases me the most is that business columns may not have space for words but the way author is able to convey these dry facts is amazing.
