
Ganguly Jr National champion
SIVAKASI: SS Ganguly GNCA won the Junior National chess championship, defeating S Kidambi TN after the two players were level at the end of the final round and subsequent tie-breaker.
As the total points and progressive scores for Ganguly and Kidambi were the same, a tie-breaker was resorted to by playing two 15-minute matches where both scored 1-1. Another two lightning games were given which Ganguly won with a score of 1.5-0.5.
In the final round, Ganguly, needing a win to clash for the title with Kidambi, beat P Mahesh Chandran in 28 moves. Kidambi defeated V Kamble of Maharashtra.

JAMSHEDPUR: A defiant unbeaten 69 by middle order batsman Rajiv Kumar went in vain as Bengal trounced Bihar by 91 runs in another East Zone one-day match today. Chasing 251, Bihar, 91 for six at obne stage, could manage 159 for eight after 50 overs. Earlier, the Bengal innings was floundering at 87 for four before Saba Karim 76 and Charanjeet Singh 53 put on 97 for the fifth wicket. ANGUL ORISSA: A fine bowling performance by medium pacer Robin Morris and all-rounder Sanjay Satpathy8217;s crucialeffort enabled Orissa beat Assam by two wickets in their East Zone Ranji Trophy one-day tie today. Satpathy, who scored 31 off 18 balls, added 50 for the unbroken ninth wicket with Ajay Barik 15. He was adjudged man of the match.
