Gaekwad, Azhar censured
MUMBAI: Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin and cricket manager Anshuman Gaekwad have been censured by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for carrying on with an injured player, fast bowler Javagal Srinath, during the recently concluded India-Australia Test series.
BCCI secretary JY Lele told newsmen here today that the captain and manager gave inaccurate information about Srinath’s physical condition. Apparently the bowler was injured during the second Test at Calcutta but the selectors were not briefed that he was unfit to play the third and last Test at Banglore. This mistake deprived a fitter player a berth in the squad.
Indians upbeat
KOCHI: "We would like to continue winning," said Indian coach Anshuman Gaekwad after the team’s practice session at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium here today, venue of the India versus Australia triangular series opener to be played on April 1.
Gaekwad described the pitch prepared for the match asgood, quite flat and hard. He said the team would be finalised only after discussions with the National selectors who are expected here tomorrow.
