
Swapnoj Thakur shines in Indian win
MUMBAI: India expectedly romped past debutant Netherlands in second league match of the Costcutter Junior World Cup winning by ten wickets at the Eton College Ground last evening.
According to information received here, medium-pacer Irfan Pathan 2-24, Dev Das 2-16 and Subhash Dixit 2-16 did the demolition job. Then Indian opener Swapnoj Thakur slammed an unbeaten 56 off 80 balls inclusive of eight fours, while his partner Abhinav Kumar remained unbeaten on 30 off 45 balls with three boundaries.
Top cagers for invitational tourney
CHENNAI: Top teams in the country including Federation Cup champions Punjab Police fielding internationals, runners-up Indian Army, National champions Tamil Nadu, Western Railway, South Central Railway and Vijaya Bank men, will be vying for honours on league-cum-knock out format in a mega prize money basketball invitational championship to be held for five days from Wednesday till August six.
The championship is being held by former international AD Sendureswaran8217;s Jayaditya Sports Academy under the auspices of Tamil Nadu Basketball Association at the JJ Indoor Stadium here.
In the women8217;s section Federation Cup champions Indian Railways, Kerala, South Central Railway, Southern Railway and Tamil Nadu will compete for the title on league format.
Ganesh Kundu retires
NAGPUR: Former international Ganesh Kundu, who is representing the Indian Railways table tennis team since last 14 years has decided to retire after this season. Talking to The Indian Express, Kundu, who is here to participate in the 48th All-India Railway Table Tennis Championship, said that he started his career for Railways in Nagpur and decided that this championship would be his last representing Eastern Railway.
