
Chandigarh to enter World Marathon map
CHANDIGARH: The first Chandigarh International Marathon will be organised on February six next year. The event is proposed to be held on the pattern of London and Pune Marathon.
It would see participation of celebrities like Milkha Singh and PT Usha, an official said. More than 25,000 persons were expected to participate in eight events of different age groups.
Award for Sikdar
CHENNAI: Prima donna of the Bangkok Asian Games, India8217;s jyotirmoyee Sikdar has been voted the best sportsperson for 1998 by the Tamil Nadu Sports Journalist Association TNSJA here today.
Other awardees: Special awards: S Venkatraghavan cricket umpire amp; Mayura Kumar swimming; Best Sportswoman of TN; Roopa Unnikrishnan Shooting; Best Collegiate Sportsperson: Vijay Kannan Tennis; Best Schoolboy: MR Venkatesh Chess; Best Schoolgirl: Jyotsna Chinnappa Squash; Best Team: TN state men8217;s hockey.
Women8217;s Futures
CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh will host threeinternational tennis tournaments in the remaining 1999-2000 season including December8217;s 10,000 ITF women8217;s tennis. The 10,000 ITF men8217;s Future circuit tournament January, 2000 and ITF Junior Tournament February, 2000 are the other tourneys the city will organise during the season.
Hockey manager
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police HJ Dora and G Satyanarayana were elected president and general secretary of the Hyderabad Hockey Association for a two-year term. While Dora was elected unanimously, Satyanarayana defeated P Kanthaiah 26-18.
Satyanarayana has also been nominated manager of the Junior Indian hockey team for the tours to Holland and Poland next month.
