Municipal Corporation of Delhi collects a record Rs 2,700 crore in property tax by December 31, officials said.
In a fresh record, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) collected over Rs 2,700 crore as property tax till December 31 last year, said officials. “By December 31, 2025, the Assessment & Collection department of MCD had collected more than Rs 2,700 crore in property tax revenue. This has been the highest collected amount since the civic body was unified in 2022,” said an official.
This amount, officials added, is 45% higher than the amount collected during the corresponding period last year.
Meanwhile, the number of total property taxpayers has increased to 12,43,375 this financial year in comparison to 10,31,177 taxpayers recorded in the last financial year, marking a growth of nearly 21%.
This comes after the civic body announced the rollout of ‘SUNIYO’, a one-time property tax amnesty scheme this financial year. Under this initiative, taxpayers get a waiver of interest and penalties by paying the current year’s tax (2025-26) in addition to property tax dues over the last five years (2020-21 to 2024-25).
“Many taxpayers who had earlier filed incorrect property tax returns (PTRs) and paid lesser property tax availed this scheme,” the official underlined.
“As a result, approx 1.70 lakh taxpayers availed the SUNIYO scheme, generating property tax revenue of Rs. 933 crore up to December 31. This includes Rs. 320 crore collected from 91,000 new taxpayers,” the official added.
The SUNIYO scheme has been extended up to January 31 with a minor penalty of 5%, and the taxpayers can apply through MCD’s property tax portal, the civic body said.
